Christ Is King
- INTRODUCTION:
- THE WORLD HAS HAD MANY SPLENDID KINGS:
- One of these was King Solomon.
- The Queen of Sheba was attracted
to the court of King Solomon by reports of his greatness.
I
Kings 10:1-5 = "And when the
queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning
the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with
hard questions. And she came to Jerusalem with a
very great train, with camels that bare spices,
and very much gold, and precious stones: and when
she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of
all that was in her heart. And Solomon told
her all her questions: there was not any thing hid
from the king, which he told her not. And when the
queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon's wisdom, and
the house that he had built, And the meat of his
table, and the sitting of his servants, and the
attendance of his ministers, and their apparel,
and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which
he went up unto the house of the LORD; there
was no more spirit in her."
- She was so astounded at King
Solomons greatness that "there
was no more spirit in her."
[I
Kings 10: 5]
- WHERE ARE THE GREAT KINGS OF THE
EARTH TODAY?
- The Caesars.
- The Alexanders.
- The Napoleons.
- The Czars.
- There glory has faded into dust.
- THERE IS NO PERMANENT EARTHLY KINGDOM.
- Earthly kings and kingdoms will
pass away in a few short years.
- Yet there is a king and kingdom
that will not pass away - The King and His kingdom
will last through out eternity.
- DISCUSSION:
- THE KING:
- A king who is "the prince
of the kings of the earth" = [Revelation
1:5].
- A king who is "Lord of lords,
and King of kings" = [Revelation
17:14].
- A king whose crown was made of
thorns. John
19:5 = "Then came Jesus forth,
wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple
robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!"
- A king that while on earth wore
a crown of thorns, offers to all His followers a "crown
of righteousness" and a "crown of life"
II
Timothy 4:8 = "Henceforth there
is laid up for me a crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me
at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them
also that love his appearing."
Revelation
2:10 = "Fear none of those things
which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast
some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and
ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful
unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."
- This king is Christ.
John
18:33-38 = "Then Pilate entered into
the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said
unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? Jesus answered
him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others
tell it thee of me? Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine
own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee
unto me: what hast thou done? Jesus answered, My
kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of
this world, then would my servants fight, that I should
not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom
not from hence. Pilate therefore said unto him,
Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that
I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this
cause came I into the world, that I should bear
witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth
heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?
And when he had said this, he went out again unto the
Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at
all."
- THE KINGDOM:
- A kingdom that is "not
of this world" = [John
18:36].
- A kingdom of subjects that become
citizens in it, only when they surrender their complete
selves in obedience to the king.
Acts
2:47 = "Praising God, and having
favour with all the people. And the Lord added
to the church daily such as should be saved."
Matthew
16:24-28 = "Then said Jesus unto
his disciples, If any man will come after me, let
him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow
me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it:
and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall
find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain
the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall
a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of
man shall come in the glory of his Father with his
angels; and then he shall reward every man according
to his works. Verily I say unto you, There be some
standing here, which shall not taste of death, till
they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom."
Mark
12:30 = "And thou shalt love
the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and
with all thy soul, and with all thy mind,
and with all thy strength: this is the first
commandment."
COMMENT:
There is in the kingdom:
- No forced labor.
- No salt mines staffed with
malcontents.
- No rebel will find a home here.
- A kingdom that has no "chain
of command" to go through to get to the king.
1
Timothy 2:5 = "For there is one God,
and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;"
NOTE: There
are no earthly courts staffed by "princes of the
church" or special leaders that wear triple tiaras
or special titles.
- CONCLUSION:
- THERE IS SECURITY FOR THE SOUL IN
THE KINGDOM OF CHRIST :
Acts
4:12 = "Neither is there salvation
in any other: for there is none other name under heaven
given among men, whereby we must be saved."
Ephesians
5:23-25 = "For the husband is the
head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the
church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore
as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives
be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love
your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and
gave himself for it;"
- THERE IS A PLACE OF REFUGE WHILE
ON EARTH IN THE KINGDOM THAT IS NOT OF THIS WORLD.
John
10:1-5 = "Verily, verily, I say
unto you, He that entereth not by the door into
the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the
same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth
in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To
him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice:
and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth
them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep,
he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him:
for they know his voice. And a stranger will they
not follow, but will flee from him: for they know
not the voice of strangers."
COMMENT:
Since on earth the kingdom of Christ offers us a
place of security and refuge - Then why not become
a subject, or citizen, of the kingdom of Christ
today.
Ephesians
2:19-22 = "Now therefore ye
are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow
citizens with the saints, and of the household
of God; And are built upon the foundation of the
apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being
the chief corner stone; In whom all the building
fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple
in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together
for an habitation of God through the Spirit."
