Do You Preach a Practical
Religion
I.
INTRODUCTION:
II.
DISCUSSION:
A.
BIBLE DOCTRINE IS PRACTICAL.
1.
False doctrine makes ones worship and service
to God to be
in vain.
Matthew
15:9 =
But in vain they do worship me, teaching
for doctrines the commandments of men.
Ephesians
4:14-15 =
That we henceforth be no more children,
tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine,
by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they
lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all
things, which is the head, even Christ:
1
Timothy 1:3-4
= As
I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into
Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach
no other doctrine, Neither
give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister
questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so
do.
2
Timothy 4:3-4
= For
the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to
themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth,
and shall be turned unto fables.
Conclusion: Therefore, sound
(or true) doctrine is practical.
2.
False doctrine keeps one from having God.
2
John 9 =
Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not
in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in
the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
Conclusion: Therefore, sound (or true) doctrine is practical to having
God.
3.
False doctrine can not save man.
I
Timothy 4:16
= Take
heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them:
for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that
hear thee.
Conclusion: Therefore, sound (or true) doctrine is practical for salvation.
4.
False doctrine is either less, or more than, the true
doctrine.
Revelation
22:18-19 =
For I testify unto every man that heareth
the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add
unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that
are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the
book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of
the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things
which are written in this book.
Conclusion: Therefore, sound (or true) doctrine is practical to let us
know whether something has been removed or added to the doctrine.
5.
The teaching of false doctrine leads one away from
the truth.
Ephesians
4:11-16 =
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets;
and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the
ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of
the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto
the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and
fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the
sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in
wait to deceive; But
speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things,
which is the head, even Christ:
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and
compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to
the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh
increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
1
Corinthians 16:13
= Watch
ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
Jude
3 =
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write
unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to
write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend
for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Conclusion:
Therefore, sound (or true) doctrine is practical as it will
keep one from being tossed about by every false doctrine.
6.
False doctrine is the teaching of man to sooth the
itching ears of man.
II
Timothy 4:3-4
= For the time will come when they will not endure
sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap
to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth,
and shall be turned unto fables.
Conclusion: Therefore, sound (or true) doctrine is practical in teaching
doctrine that pleases God and not than which pleases man.
B.
THE DOCTRINE OF THE
BIBLE IS PRACTICAL FOR PROPER DEVELOPMENT.
1.
The constant teaching of it stirs up our minds and
keeps us from forgetting it.
II
Peter 3:1-2
= This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto
you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken
before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us
the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
1
Peter 5:8-9
= Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the
devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may
devour: Whom
resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions
are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
2.
The teaching of it feeds the soul for proper development.
I
Peter 2:2 =
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk
of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
Ephesians
4:15-16 =
But speaking the truth in love, may grow
up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and
compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to
the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh
increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
